about
ver-n-ous:
vern (noun) - shield; anything which protects or defends
n - (from Latin) - infix used to denote an action
ous - suffix used to form adjectives from nouns. From Latin -ösus ("full, full of")
nous (noun) - common sense; practical intelligence
Vernous is music with synths, slides, strings, strums and staccato sticky drums. Stylistically, the core of the tracks is electronic dance music, though strains of industrial, noise, rock and ambient music can be heard. Vernous' second release, Vernous I, picks up from where last year's self-released Vernous left off: dark and nostalgic songs induce a feeling that is reminiscent of the thick winter air and stark branches of upstate New York, the place where the sounds of Vernous were first conceived. Each song is a montage of drum samples, chopped and delayed vocals, soft and analog synths, and guitars with ebows, slides, and good ol' pickin'. Aside from drum samples, everything is recorded live. Arranging and sequencing take place simultaneously with recording. Lyrics touch on politics, sex, abandonment and the divine. Live performances are loud, fun and danceable.
